Headlight Restoration
TAD Auto Detail provides mobile headlight restoration from North Wembley and across nearby parts of North West London. Polycarbonate lenses can develop external yellowing, haze, roughness or coating failure through weathering, heat, washing and abrasion. Where the defect is confined to the outer surface, controlled correction can materially improve clarity. Internal moisture, structural cracks, failed optics or electrical faults require a different repair.
1 What We Offer
- Controlled wet sanding where required, with the abrasive sequence selected for the individual lens
- Machine polish using rotary or dual-action polisher with cutting and finishing compounds
- Final hand-finish with ultra-fine polish for maximum optical clarity
- Compatible UV-protective finishing product included to slow renewed weathering
- Surrounding paintwork fully masked before any sanding begins
- Service completed at your home or driveway — no need to take your car anywhere
2 Benefits
- Can materially improve a suitable externally yellowed or clouded lens; deep chips, crazing and internal defects may remain
- May improve the useful light path where external haze is the cause, but does not replace bulb, aim or electrical diagnosis
- May address an external lens condition relevant to an MOT, without guaranteeing a pass
- Can be more economical than replacing a serviceable lamp assembly; replacement cost varies widely by vehicle and technology
- UV-protective finishing product applied to slow renewed weathering; no treatment prevents ageing permanently
- Fully mobile — carried out at your home or driveway, no need to travel
3 Our Process
We inspect the lens first to distinguish external deterioration from internal or structural faults. Surrounding surfaces are masked before correction. Mild defects may require polishing only; deeper external deterioration may need staged wet sanding with the least aggressive suitable starting point. The lens is then refined and finished with a compatible UV-protective product. Existing chips, deep crazing or internal defects are explained rather than hidden behind an “as new” promise.
Who It's For
Headlight restoration is ideal for any vehicle with visibly yellowed, hazy, or clouded headlights. It's particularly valuable before an MOT inspection, before selling a vehicle, or for older vehicles where brand new replacement units are expensive or hard to source. If your headlights look significantly worse than they did when the car was new, restoration is the cost-effective answer.
We bring all equipment and materials to your location, including our own water supply — you do not need to provide a water tap. We do however need access to a standard household power socket to run our equipment and charge the batteries for our tools. Please ensure the socket is within 50 metres of where the car will be parked. If it's further away, let us know when booking so we can plan accordingly.
4 Frequently Asked Questions
- Assessment of external and internal lens condition
- Surrounding paintwork and trim masked before correction
- Controlled wet sanding only where required
- Machine refinement with suitable compounds
- Compatible UV-protective finishing product applied to the restored lens
Wet sanding and polishing works on yellowing, clouding, and surface oxidation. If the lens is physically cracked, chipped, or has deep structural damage, restoration will not be effective and replacement will be required. We will assess this honestly before starting.
There is no honest universal lifespan. Durability depends on the lens condition, correction method, protection product, exposure, mileage, washing and storage. We explain the protection used and the applicable workmanship terms with your quote.

No — we fully mask all surrounding paintwork before any sanding begins to ensure complete protection of the paint and trim around each headlight.
Yes — and we recommend it. Restoring the lens first and then applying PPF protects the restored clarity and prevents future re-oxidation, and we can carry out both in the same visit.
